Last week, as I started to reflect on 2016, I immediately thought of just the bad things — my grandmother’s passing, lots of celebrity deaths (I know David Bowie was awesome but if I’m being honest, I’m most upset about Alan Rickman… I mean, who is going to play Snape if they make another Harry Potter movie?!), crazy politics, and the list could go on and on. I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to remember the good things that have happened throughout the year come December 31.
With the turning of the calendar begins also the start of a new year of possibilities, memories, and awesomeness to be remembered… but how?! I’ve seen variations of a memory jar before, so I thought that would be a good way to capture all of the awesome things that happen throughout the year – from job promotions and awesome report cards to a stranger sharing a smile with you on an otherwise bad day. The premise of the memory jar is to put these happy moments in the jar as they occur, then to open the jar on New Year’s Eve to remember and be thankful for all of the blessings that came your way throughout the year. In a world of negativity, having something to “jar” your memory (I know, I crack myself up) of all the awesome things the year brought you is just what we all need! I hope you all have a great 2017 full of creativity, laughter, and lots of awesome memories to fill your jars!!
